Medal of Honor: Allied Assault Review

Medal of Honor – Allied Assault or MOH-AA; where should I begin? When I first had a look at the game in the computer store, I thought “It looks ok but is it any better than any other first person shooter single player like Return to Castle Wolfenstein or Alien Vs Predator 2 ?” Well, it was a good buy for $35 (previously owned).

The Story
You are Lt. Mike Powell, sent on mission after mission by Allied Command to finish certain tasks which include but are not limited to the following;
• Storm the beaches of Normandy (Very Hard)
• Drive a German Tiger Tank through a town (Very Fun)
• Blow Up a German U boat
You start each mission with a certain amount of tasks and certain weapons. When you complete tasks, you will receive others as you continue on. You also get a compass that is displayed in the upper left of your screen which shows you the direction of your next task and how far away you are from that task. The compass will point to the tasks that are first on your list but not necessarily the next task that you can complete. The interesting thing about this game is how you receive medals. If you complete certain tasks that are not displayed but still can be done, you will receive a medal. You can also receive medals for just completing certain missions. There are a total of 8 medals you can receive but when I played I only received 6.

Pros
Easy to use controls – similar to every other 1st Person shooter
Tasks are easy to do
Good story – don’t have to worry about killing undead, that’s Wolfenstein
Tasks are challenging, making the game fun to try getting them all done.

Cons
Graphics are not anything worth writing home about – The trees don’t look that great
Reload time on weapons some times takes too long – remember they are WW2 weapons, not Laser guns
Each mission you only get certain weapons. If you founda bazooka last mission, you might not have it for the next mission.

This game is also a snipers best dream and worst nightmare. You can be walking through the forest and all of a sudden a shot rings out and you get hit. I found a couple of times where I could not see the sniper because he was hiding behind a tree.
I recommend this game to anyone who likes 1st person shooters and enjoy a good single player story line. I never tried this game online and was not interested in trying so I cannot recommend it. There are other Medal of Honor games: Spearhead, Frontline, Underground and the original Medal of Honor. Each game you play a different person, each with their own storyline. Looks like I will have to try them all as well.
