Aliens vs. Predator 2 Review

I have only one clip left....My motion tracker is picking up some sort of movement behind that door.....My flashlight is almost dead, with only about a minute left of power.....My armor is low, since that alien busted through the wall, spitting acid all over my body, and using much of my Pulse Gun ammo to take it out......The alien now lies behind me with a few shots to the head......I find myself trembling as I slowly make my way to the door.....One step.....two steps.......I open the door......I immediately aim my gun for anything that moves....But I soon find that my motion sensor was picking up the swaying light that lies in front of me...."Well that’s a relief " I think to myself, "I honestly thought that, that was a..........." And before my eyes, the light sways to reveal part of an alien's body in the light as it sits crouched in the darkness right in front of me...."Oh S***!!!" Screaming it leaps and kills me before I even could pull the trigger......

Aliens Vs. Predator 2, is one of the most chilling and suspenseful First Person Shooter, I have ever played. This game gave me numerous Heart Jumps, and made me irritable the whole way through. You'll find yourself with your flashlight, searching every corner, for a possible hazard. Many times I found myself saving after every footstep I made, just in case an alien was to come bursting from the air ducts above, or perhaps the very grate on the ground beneath me. This game excels in the Suspense category, and makes you feel like you’re in the James Cameron directed movie.

Sierra and Fox have done an outstanding job with developing this game. Everything is top notch for being a FPS. The Gameplay engine is almost flawless and resembles somewhat the Half Life Engine. With 3 different species with their own campaigns, this game packs a great storyline and enough variation for a continuously good time. The Sound by far is one of the main reasons this game is so suspenseful. Besides the dark environments you’re always going through, the soundtrack feels just like a movie as the music starts to climb, and then suddenly drops into a frantic climate that puts you on the edge. The sound effects are also just as good. The familiar pulse of your Motion Sensor sounds oh so sweet, until it starts to hum, and pick up its pitch, letting you know, that you’re not the only one in the room. Also to top that off, you get to hear your squad navigating the other corridors, as they talk to you through your comm. device, about what they see and are tracking. Its chilling to hear the music pick up its pace, and then over the radio, hear gunfire as you hear one of your Squad Members yells...and then.....and then......silence. You could swear that James Cameron himself must have made this game.

The Graphics are also worthy of speaking. While nothing special, they’re certainly nothing to laugh at. The textures and models are very nicely done as it puts and molds you into a realistic distant future type period. The whole game is beautifully done with the lush environments that Sierra puts you in. Each level you go through, whether it be a shut down complex or the Alien Hive itself, has hints of time and effort put into it, with variation, rather than the same texture over and over again.

Though this game would not be complete or near as cool without the array of weaponry you get to use. Weapons at your disposal include Sniper Rifles, Pulse Guns, Hand Guns, the beloved Flame Thrower, Gatling Guns, Grenade Launchers, and the infamous Mechanical “Loader” that retail wise comes installed with duel machine guns and flamethrower.

Multiplayer is also a blast. While no scenario has objectives, this game is pretty much the standard “Kill-Till-You-Can’t-Kill-Anymore” kind of game, where everyone is competing for the top score. Multiplayer scenarios include:

Team Deathmatch – You choose your team, and try to destroy everyone else that is not.

Deathmatch – You against the world, or specifically the other players.

Survivor – How long can you last?

The Hunt – Hunting Season begins as it’s a race to kill whoever is chosen as The Hunted. Just don’t eat what you catch

Players get to choose (Depending on the server limits) from the 3 kinds of Species: Humans, Aliens, and Predators. Each has their own sub-class complete with different weapons and attacks for each. While nothing outstandingly special, the multiplayer is nothing to gawk at and gives he game a lot more replay value.

Overall this game should sit in your collection of PC Games, as it’s a blast to play, and re-play. Sierra and Fox interactive have made an outstanding game that is everything Alien vs. Predator fans would be content with. And now as it has gone Gold, its sits at a “Golden” price of around 20 Dollars flat.

The Good:

• Solid Gameplay

• Stellar Soundtrack

• The Suspense is Incredible

The Bad:

• Multiplayer is nothing special

• Sometimes the game becomes a little repetative

The Ugly:

• The expressions of the characters faces during points of dialogs look like they're legally
blind.
