Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Review

Grand Theft Auto Vice City for the PC is absolutely phenomenal! I purchased it the day it came out (5/13) and I haven’t been able to stop playing it. Yeah I stop for school and when I go to the bathroom and when I eat, but otherwise this game has an ‘Addictively Meter’ of 10/10. Few games can ever find this to be true with other games.

First off as most of you already know GTA Vice City was released a year before on the Sony “Newbie Machine” Playstation 2, but I am 100% glad that I waited patiently for this game to be released on the PC. With the MP3 radio capability, 30-Second Replay button (with Save-ability), 32-Bit Textures, 1600x1200 graphics resolutions, Customizable Skins, and of course a wonderful Modding community.

The game starts off with the release of Tommy Vercetti a thug who was released from Prison, and like all of the GTA games you climb your way through the difficult and long ladder of Crime. But it’s not as simple as it may sound, it’s better! The game takes place in the 1980’s where the boys wore makeup, the women said “Like, Totally!”, and Michael Jackson was STILL Black!

The music in GTAVC is very “Tubular”, for those who grew up in the 80’s it is going to be a nice road trip down memory lane, in a stolen car of course! But besides the music, the styles, and the overall 1980’s feel to the game, there is also a reason to have money in this game. Unlike GTA3 where the main purpose of money was to purchase guns and as a representation of points, Vice City’s money system is incredible. Money can be used for buying guns (of course), buying brutal hardware tools, buying clothing, buying health (in a dirty prostitution manner), buying places to live (save), garages, and best of all Businesses where you can make more money off of the purchase. For instance I just bought a Taxi Cab Company and I think its every time someone gets a cab I get a certain percentage of the fairs. Plus, it has stopped me from stealing Taxi Cabs (well, sometimes).

So there is a ton of stuff to do in this game. I have already spent over 9 hours on this game and I’m only 18 percent done with it. That alone makes it a great game, because you don’t have to just focus on the missions if you want. I have been spending time finding the many hidden packages around the City, I have also been doing taxi missions, and robbing stores (then running anxiously from the raging VC Police force!), but stuff like that and side-missions are just amazingly fun, and then when you do go to the main missions its just that much more fun because you know you’ve spent so much time savoring and enjoy every but of this wonderful game. This will without a doubt make many Gaming sites and magazines “Best PC Action Game of 2003”.
