XIII was a pretty good game, but it had its weak points. First of all, XIII is a FPS that has a comic book look to it and I have to give credit to the developers for trying something new and unique. The idea comes from the French XIII comic book line. I am a huge X-files fan, and using David Duchovny for the main character’s voice (#XIII) was kind of nice because it is so familiar to me, but also strange at the same time. Other famous people that play characters are Adam West and Eve.
The game starts off with you waking up on a beach with a gunshot wound. You cannot remember anything that has happened, and cannot even remember your own name. As the story goes along you start to get flashbacks from your past and start to remember who you are and what led to your wound. A majority of the storyline is trying to discover your identity and why you have been blamed for an assassination. The exact name for the comic book style look is called cell-shading. The maps and models also use cell-shading and even though this is a unique way of doing things, you begin to wonder how much easier it is for the developers to make this style of game compared to other games.
The game isn’t that bad, but it isn’t great either. The story line is conspiracy based, and I have to admit that I like conspiracies. The major weakness of the game is the fact that you can only save at checkpoints. I absolutely hate it when you cannot save games where you are at. The concept seems to originate with console games, and I can’t stand it. The point of saving the game is so you can start off without doing things all over again. The A.I. wasn't good and the graphics got old. The storyline was allright but not great. The game is also somewhat difficult especially the last guy you have to overcome.
