THE AUSSIE AGE today reports how the local record industry enforcer raided the offices of Sharman Networks, owners of the Kazaa file-sharing service. The raids in twelve different locations were organized by the Music Industry Privacy Investigations (MIPI) body after it obtained court orders allowing it to do so - in the hunt for evidence in the on-going battle against the free trade in copyrighted music.
MIPI general manager Michael Speck said the action was designed help, "stop the illegal use of music through use of the Kazaa network."
He accused Kazaa of building a large international business, "through encouraging and authorising the illegal copying of music users of its network". He claimed Kazaa, "authorises this copying without seeking the licence or permission of the owners and creators of the music." Nor, he said, does Kazaa, "pay any royalties to either the owners or creators of the music."...........read the entire article
